Privacy policy

Last updated October 25, 2026

In short: Tractline does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your location, your camera and the files you import are used on your phone and never sent to us or anyone else.

Your location

Tractline uses your location to work out what land you are on, how far the nearest boundary is, and where to draw boundaries in the 3D view. It asks for location only while you are using the app. Your location is used on your phone only. It is not stored, sent or shared.

Camera

If you turn on the camera view, the live picture is shown on your screen with boundaries drawn over it. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.

Motion and compass

Compass and motion readings point the 3D view and the direction arrow the way your phone faces. They are used on your phone only.

Files you import

Lines you import (GPX, KML, KMZ or GeoJSON) are copied into Tractline's storage on your phone so they are there next time. They are never uploaded. Deleting a line in the app, or deleting the app, removes them. The original file is not changed.

Settings kept on your phone

Tractline remembers a few things on your phone, such as whether you have read the "Approximate, not a survey" notice and what you said brings you to the app. These stay on your phone and are removed when you delete the app.

App updates

Tractline gets small updates over the internet from Expo, the service it is built with (EAS Update, operated by 650 Industries, Inc.). When it checks for an update, your phone sends Expo the app version, the platform (iOS), and a random number created for this installation, which lets Expo count update downloads. Like any internet request, it also reveals your phone's IP address. These requests do not include your location, your files or anything that names you. See Expo's privacy policy.

Links you open

Some screens link to an agency's official map or to OpenStreetMap. Those open in your browser, and that site's own privacy policy applies.

Apple

Apple runs the App Store and TestFlight. If you have chosen in your iPhone's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us, under Apple's privacy policy. We do not receive anything that identifies you from Apple.

Children

Tractline is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect personal information from anyone.

The map on this website

The map at tractline.app/map runs in your browser and works the same way as the app. The spot you click and anything you look at are worked out in your browser. If you choose Use my location, your browser asks first, and your location is used in the browser only. Lines you import and your reading of the notice are kept in your browser's storage on your device; clearing your browser's data for this site removes them. The map downloads its data from this website as you look around, like any web page.

This website

This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and to keep the site running.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If Tractline ever starts collecting data, this policy will say so before it happens.
